Kewford U9 South praised by Stourbridge League

Well done to Kewford U9 South who received high praise following a recent spot check by the Stourbridge and District Youth and Girls Football League.

Kewford South U9 2016

The team, coached by John McCluskie and Andrew Ratcliffe received the highest praise from the League "mystery customer" after their game against Penn Colts on 11th December.

The League prasied the matchday set-up as a "model envionment" and "one of the best" they have seen this season and praised the coaches for their approach to the game.:

A brilliant approach. Rotated their players regularly in what was a cold damp morning. Never once did they bellow out any instructions - there was lots of thoughtful observation here and letting the children find their own way during the game - even when they were 2-0 down. They would offer occasional guidance and encouragement, but let the players 'just play' and this gave those players the confidence to make the game much closer - when other teams might have been shouted at and then crumbled. Well done these two coaches.

The League also had high praise for the players:

Never stopped working and played with a lot of freedom which was even better to see - they worked their own way back into the game. Well done kids.

And the spectators:

Absolutely no issues. Only ever supportive.

The coaches have been referred by the League to FA Coach Mentor Rus Smith as a result of the spot check and have been handed the opportunity to spend a day at St George's Park - home of the England Team training ground - with a tour and some football games thrown in.

This is a fantastic result for Kewford, not only has the team set the benchmark for the "How we Coach" and "How we Play" categories of the Kewford DNA Strategy but they've also demonstrated what can be achieved when  everyone in the team really take on board the positive messages of The FA RESPECT campaign.

The team will also get the chance to work with FA Coach Mentor Rus Smith at a Kewford DNA session in the New Year which will be a great opportunity for players to showcase their skills and for all coaches in Kewford to come down and help us explore "Who we are", "How we Coach", "How we Play" and "How we Support" as we strive to set a playing strategy for the club and find out what makes "The Future Kewford Player".

Congratulations to everyone involved in the team - coaches, players and supporters.
