Eagle Park is launched in spectacular style
Saturday April 26th 2014 was a unique day, for Kewford Eagles FC, and for the local community, as we officially opened our new home at The KW Sports Ground - 'Eagle Park'.
Sir Trevor Brooking CBE was our special guest of honour, accompanied by Mark Pover ( UK Head of Facilities for the FA ), and Hannah Buckley ( Regional Facilities Manager for the FA ) Sir Trevor officially opened our new home by starting the very first match played, between the Under 17 and Under 18 boys teams, many of whom had been with the club since starting in the Feeder Group at age 5! The match was won by U17’s with goals from their captain Joe Woodall, Ben Small and Josh Smith. The Under 18’s, goal came from James Harrison after a header from Ben Boleyn. The Under 18’s captain and goal keeper was Liam Heeley.
With hundreds of players in green and white, of all ages, boys and girls, men and women, and twice as many parents, grandparents and friends of Kewford in attendance, Eagle Park was launched in spectacular style. Local media were in attendance, taking every opportunity to capture the event.
Two huge marquees housed everyone during the formalities, ensuring that people were protected against the elements which had contrived to be a bit 'unpredictable' - if you have an event in April you have to expect and plan for April showers! As it turned out, the weather on the day was relatively kind, and interspersed with some good sunny spells, which showed the new pitches in the best light.
Other guest speakers during the official opening were Simon Hall, Director Black Country BeActive Sports Partnership ( Sport England ), and Hannah Buckley, Regional Facilities Manager for the FA, as well as Keith Marks as the Club Chairman, and Colin Worthington, Project Leader for the Grass Roots Project. Brett Woodall was Master of Ceremonies, conducting what was generally acknowledged as a very well planned and 'professional' opening set of speeches.
The day itself went to plan ( almost – we had a slight power issue which was recovered within 20 minutes by one of our Kewford Team Managers – fortunately an electrician! ), people enjoyed themselves, and the players got to play football on the new grounds – albeit some pitches were a little soggy following some heavy rain the day before. With very positive comments received afterwards from several of our special guests, plus many other comments within the club saying how people enjoyed the day, it was one for the club to look back on with a great deal of pride and satisfaction. There won't be many days in the future of the club to match it. There aren't too many occasions where a junior grass roots football club can really launch such an amazing new facility, and everyone responsible for the running of the club sincerely hopes that we have done justice to all the organisations who put so much into the grounds, to make their investment in our club totally worthwhile.
The many photos, comments and presentational film will hopefully give everyone a flavour of what was done, who did what – and just as important – WHY WE DID IT! Enjoy!
The following presentation is a collection of photographs showing the develpment of the ground with some early visits to the site.
