In November 2006, Ed is in his fourth season as a team manager, having started with the Under 7's as a co-manager with Steve Thomas at that time. Work and commitments forced Steve to take a back-seat role as a parent, and Pete stepped in, to assist Ed, and they have formed a very effective partnership in looking after this set of young players, now at Under 10 in the 2006 - 2007 season.
Asked why they do it, their answers reflect what most who get involved as Team Managers will tell you. To help in the football development of a young group of lads, to see them get better over time, to take satisfaction in watching them become technically better - and, in addition, to give a solid base on which they could take their chosen sport further into adulthood if they decide to go that far.
Both agree that even though management can be testing and very tough, the rewards are there to be had by all- players and parents alike. They have enjoyed their successes in terms of performance, as they experienced at under 8's when winning the merit shield , and all this time wearing the green and white of Kewford Eagles.
In saying this, it is the evident pleasure they get from running a team that stands out, win, lose or draw. This has been noted over the years of looking at their match reporting on the web site. Invariably this has shown, via the many lively photos taken of the lads before, during and after games that they, and the parents behind them, do it for the enjoyment of those that this is really all about - the young players under their care.
Which is exactly how it should be !
Well done to Ed and Pete for making a positive difference. It is appreciated.
